Negotiating Letters of Intent: Setting the Stage for a Successful Lease Negotiation

Negotiating a detailed letter of intent has numerous benefits and can often save each party time and money. A main benefit of using a letter of intent is that it can help frame the agreement and identify major (and potentially deal-breaking issues) before the parties proceed with incurring the time and expense of negotiating a lease. However, there are also common pitfalls that each party should be aware of and attempt to avoid.

This presentation will focus on key issues for both the landlord and the tenant to consider when negotiating a letter of intent, and will also include a discussion of the various parties that are typically involved in lease negotiations (e.g., outside brokers, management companies, legal counsel), their scope of involvement, and the importance of communication among all involved parties.
