Digital Entertainment, Mobile and Internet Law Year in Review

This program is specifically designed to help in-house and outside counsel stay abreast of the ever-changing landscape of Internet Law. The distinguished panel will cover important new Internet law developments and legal trends affecting digital media and entertainment, including circuit splits and developments over the course of 2014.

Ian Ballon will offer insight on these developments from a litigator’s perspective, while Tracey Freed will explain the effect these issues have on in-house business decisions. In addition, the panelist will identify and discuss new issues to come in 2015 and beyond.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • Aereo and its broader implications for technology and entertainment companies;
  • New US Supreme Court and Circuit Courts of Appeal decisions;
  • Applying the DMCA, CDA and other safe harbors and exemptions to mobile devices and apps, social media and the cloud;
  • DMCA review and updates;
  • Data privacy, Security Breach and TCPA class action suits -- the particular risks faced by entertainment companies

Ian Ballon is an Internet litigator with Greenberg Traurig, LLP and author of the leading treatise in the field, E-Commerce and Internet Law: Legal Treatise with Forms 2d edition (Thomson West, www.IanBallon.net).

Tracey L. Freed is a partner at DME Law, LLP (formerly of Sony Pictures Entertainment).
