Legal Ethics: We've Got You Covered for Your Modern Practice

Join us for an introduction and discussion about the Code of Ethics for Hearing Officers in Peer Review Hearings adopted by the American Health Lawyers Association on June 29, 2013. Health law practitioners often find that their work takes them to other states and is covered by the laws of other states. Find out the rules of multi-jurisdictional practice and under what circumstances such practice could lead to claims of unauthorized practice of law in other jurisdictions.

Health law practitioners may also have to deal with individual doctors, doctor groups, hospitals, hospital networks, and trade associations. These situations can lead to confusion as to whom the lawyer represents. Find out whether the lawyer represents one client or several. The speakers will discuss the rules for identifying the client and will offer suggestions for avoiding pitfalls by addressing these issues up front in engagement letters, including joint representation agreements, and obtaining necessary waivers.
